S'March of Metal Slayer - Eyes Of The Insane

I've never been a big fan of Slayer. They won a Grammy award for this...at least they were more metal than other best metal performace Grammy winner Jethro Tull.

Slaya!

First saw 'em in '86 on the Reign In Blood tour and wasn't impressed with them live. Saw 'em again in '89 and was blown away and have been a fan ever since. Some of their late 90's material was not up to snuff but they've taken a step forward with the return of Dave Lombardo on drums.

I remember seeing them at the Newport around '92 and they had signs outside the venue warning pregnant moms and epileptic peeps that they might want to reconsider entering the show. "Neat gimmick," I thought as I entered the show. It was no gimmick, they had an arenas worth of lighting crammed into the Newport stage. The most punishing and intense show I've ever been to, I'm amazed people didn't seziure from the light show. I've never seen anything close to that again. Great stuff.

While I have mixed feelings on Slayer I hear they are brilliant live. Kerry King just shreds. I'd take him over Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or that guy in Lars Ulrich's band.
