Mayhem:Ronnie Dio and the Prophets - Love Potion Nº 9

Here my friend is Ronnie James Dio's introduction to the black arts...His first band way back in 1964 doing a cover of the classic Clovers (also covered by the Searchers), Love Potion Number 9. RJ Dio...he's old enough to collect social security but is still kicking ass...He is the Paul Harvey of metal.

Classic. Dio is the man. Ozzy may have had his day but he hit his expiration date around mid-1984. Dio on the other hand still keeps rolling and releasing new stuff, plus his vocals are still in fine shape.

Dio wins, period.

I found this over on the Metal Sludge gossip board..at first I thought "nah, it couldn't be..." but then I heard that spoken intro and knew that it was the real deal.

I think the fact that Dio still sounds good while Ozzy sounds like a smoke detector is due to clean living. I believe Dio is a smoker but you've never heard of him being a drunk or drugged out of his mind.

After Ultimate Sin I was done with Ozzy....I thought that lineup with Jake E. Lee, Phil Soussan and the other dude whose name I can't remember but believe he played in Motley Crue was his best solo band.

The over the rainbow Randy Castillo is the name you search for. Liked the lineup but that Ultimate Sin tour was the beginning of the end for Ozzy.

Thank you...if memory serves Randy Castillo died from colon cancer, which is the only thing that hasn't killed a drummer in Spinal Tap.

That Ultimate Sin tour was shite. Maybe Ozzy should go out on a "20 plus years of shite" tour.
