The Song Remains the Same

By all accounts last nights Led Zeppelin reunion show was nothing short of brilliant. Old codgers? Dinosaur rock? The Times of London says Led Zep was nothing of the sort last night "At a rehearsal a few weeks ago, Plant was heard to complain about the challenges of divining a voice of a 20-year-old from the body of a 60-year-old man. He needn’t have worried. Older equipment may take a while to get going, but once the requisite valves heat up, the quality is unmistakable" Shame there wasn't a live broadcast of this concert last night. I think they would have done big business with this as a pay per view or maybe as one of those concerts shown in movie theaters. Rumor has it that it'll be out on DVD by this time next year. Lets hope that Zeppelin comes out of the hangar every once and awhile to remind fans of rock that once upon a time gods lived among them.
MSNBC says last nights show is proof the band needs to do a full blown tour:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22182703/
Here's the setlist:
“Good Times, Bad Times”“Ramble On”“Black Dog”“In My Time of Dying”“For Your Life”“Trampled Under Foot”“Nobody’s Fault But Mine”“No Quarter”“Since I’ve Been Lovin’ You”“Dazed and Confused”“Stairway To Heaven”“The Song Remains the Same”“Misty Mountain Hop”“Kashmir”
Encore:“Whole Lotta Love”“Rock and Roll
Dogfighting landed Mike Vick in prison for 23 months. That nearly 2 year sentence was handed down by the judge yesterday. Seems the judge was hacked off that the former Falcons QB didn't cooperate with the Feds as he promised at the time of his plea. Vick also failed a drug test. Here's hoping that the NFL bans this sick bastard for life. Here's hoping as well that the NFL does something about this....Two Falcons players last night wore signs of support for ASPCA's poster child for animal cruelty. Cornerback D'Angelo Hall wore facepaint that spelled out "MV7" while receiver Roddy White wore a t shirt under his jersey that said "Free Mike Vick" on it. White's t shirt might not have caused him any problems had he not lifted his jersey to show it to the world. Both players are deserving of heavy fines from the league and will likely get it as no professional sports league is as image conscious as the NFL. Vick is a thug and a criminal and not deserving of sympathy. I hope they serve him Alpo in prison.
Sadly this is no surprise...Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow died of a drug overdose. Only thing worse than using cliches is being one. Freakin' waste:http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2007-12-10-dubrow-overdose_N.htm
This is good stuff...here are the most unnecessary greatest hits records of all time:http://www.cracked.com/article_15714_9-most-unnecessary-greatest-hits-albums-all-time.html

Take a moment today to remember the NHL which died 15 years ago today:http://melroserocks.blogspot.com/2007/12/day-hockey-died.html
Last night's loss to Anaheim shows these aren't your same ol' Columbus Blue Jackets even if the end result was the same...however, until they learn to win games like this, the CBJ will not be a playoff team:http://blog.dispatch.com/cbj/2007/12/steady_as_she_goes.shtml
I'm off to go steal some Hannah Montana tickets......have a swell day.

I'll always remember Jason Bonham as the drummer for Foreigner... Seriously tho', I'm semi-interested in hearing this gig. I ride the fence on Zep, I've got some early boots that flat out smoke and some mid-era ones that, um, do not smoke.

Was listening to that new Bob Plant/Alison Krauss cd on Rhapsody the other night, pretty good stuff. I'll probably pick it up next time I'm shopping.

I'm sorry Blast Furniss but as you are caucasian, you are not allowed to comment on the Vick situation unless ye be deemed a racialist. I know you are a sexualist, so don't make me add another -ist to your list.

Didn't Hall and Oates write a tune called "Your ist is on my list"?

O.M.O.M....I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that you would describe yourself as on the fence when it comes to Led Zep. Thats like saying you're on the fence when it comes to sex. Both are always great.

I have the Plant/Krauss record and it is one of the best of the year.

I apologize if I've come off as a racialist. To paraphrase Spinal Tap, whats wrong with being sexualist?

I go thru love/hate phases with Zep, The Who, The Stones, etc. Now that I have forsaken FM radio I find myself enjoying Zep more now that I am not hearing the same 3 songs on a daily basis.

I rented Talk To Me the other night. After I realized it wasn't a documentary on Ace Frehley recording the KISS Unmasked lp I settled in and enjoyed the flick. It really made me miss the good old days of radio. I remember when you wore your favorite radio station like a badge of honor. I remember hearing live concerts on Sunday nights, I remember hearing side 1 of UFO's Mechanix with no interruptions.

I'd love to buy a low-power station but Clearchannel has over priced the market to where the kooky christians are the only ones that can afford to buy the stations that are being discarded as underperforming. In 10 years, FM is going to sound like short wave radio. Nothing but a pack of christian kooks spouting on and playing substandard "music" about the lord.

Its quite tragic what became of radio. I too remember the album side days. King Biscuit was a Sunday night staple for me as a kid. I'd listen to shows by bands I didn't even like just to say that I'd heard them live.

Talk to Me? Isn't that the Dolly Parton radio movie? Oh wait..that was Straight Talk.

Clear Channel and kooky Christians have ruined everything. Just yesterday my fave internet porn site made me agree to accept Christ before it let me look at bukkake. There truly is nothing sacred.
