Monday Morning Chili & Baseball Hangover

Saturday night was one of the longest nights of my life. 11 inning baseball games and pots of chili are a flammable mix. Once my hero Trot Nixon (you do remember my glowing piece on Trot Nixon last week don't you?) put the Indians in the lead I thought I might finally be able to drift off. But noooooooo....By the time the Indians had finished off the Red Sox I was too wound up to sleep so I watched the postgame show on STO. Finally at 3am I'm asleep...or so I thought out. 2 hours later the chili that I enjoyed so thoroughly decided to attack me like the midges did the Yankees at Jacobs Field. With God as my witness, I will never eat chili again. Still, the discomfort would have been far greater had the Indians lost that game Saturday. They got the much needed split at home and with a little luck they can take the next 3 games at Jacobs Field and move on the World Series. FYI.....when the Indians advanced to the World Series in 1995 and '97 they lost the first game of the ALCS. Of course when the Indians advanced in 1997 the met the expansion Florida Marlins. When the Indians clinch the AL pennant they'll meet the Colorado Rockies who own a commanding 3-0 lead over the Dbacks in the NLCS. The Rockies have won 20 out of their last 21. Thats just sick.

When I wasn't watching sports or dealing with the attack of the killer chili, I was cleaning out my DVR. I'm giving Bionic Woman another couple weeks and then I'm done. Every episode is the same. Journeyman remains solid and well worth watching. The HBO miniseries Five Days is quite gripping but I sense I'll be let down with the ending. I watched two episodes of Life over the weekend and I'm really enjoying it. Damian Lewis, who was great in Band of Brothers is fantastic and this and Sarah Shahi is just smokin' hot. I'd watch it just to gawk at her. Reaper and Aliens in America give me a reason to watch the CW. So much quality tv, so little time.

I hate Jay Leno. There are forms of cancer that are more funny than Leno. After agreeing to hand the Tonight Show to Conan O'Brien in 2009, Leno now has 2nd thoughts:http://www.latimes.com/la-fi-leno15oct15,0,2479443.story?coll=la-home-center

Like Leno, this putz is replacing a legend....Drew Carey makes his debut as host of the Price is Right today...if anyone cares about such things:http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2007/10/14/2007-10-14_the_price_is_right_for_drew_carey.html

RATT lead singer Stephen Pearcy and his RAT BASTARDS have announced the first dates for their 2007 "Metal In America" tour, also featuring Jetboy. Pearcy will be in Columbus December 4th at Whiskey Dicks. Remind me not to go.

Did you watch any NFL action over the weekend? Never did I think the Browns would go into the bye week at 3-3. I thought they'd win 3 games all season.Their offense is like something out of a video game....the defense is horrid and will keep them from making a serious playoff run. Who would have the Browns would have a better record than the 1-4 Bengals? But then again, its hard to compete when you have so many players hurt or missing practice due to court appearances. The highlight of the NFL weekend wasn't the overhyped New England/Dallas matchup....it was 400 year old Vinny Testaverde, who won the Heisman the year I got my drivers license, coming off the streets and leading the Carolina Panthers to victory:http://deadspin.com/sports/nfl-roundup/vinny-vinny-vinny-everywhere-310767.php

Someone has taken the time to put Bob Ueckers Major League play by play with the Indians game 4 clincher over the Yankees in the ALDS....:http://homerderby.com/archives/1370#more-1370

The NHL oughta just cancel the rest of the season now and hand the Stanley Cup over to the Minnesota Wild:http://melroserocks.blogspot.com/2007/10/minnesota-wild-have-got-to-be-killing.html

Thats all I got kids...I'm off to find some antacids...stupid chili.
