New Bomb Turks

What can you say about the Turks that hasn't already been said? Them kids rock...

Too Bloody Hot Tuesday

Soooooooooo....how 'bout this global warming eh? Does anyone really understand or care about the heat stress index? Was this an evil ploy by weathermen to have the summertime equal of the wind chill factor? I totally get the wind chill factor...maybe cuz its always been around. I don't remember Mom telling me to be careful going out to play in the summer cuz the heat stress index (which I believe is some wicked combo of the temperature plus humidity)made it feel like it was 107 degrees. The heat stress index is like Sweetest Day. Like the heat stress index, I choose not to observe it.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann is simply the best "news" show on television. I find its mix of hard news, weird stories, and infotainment to be one of the best hours on television. The former Sportscenter anchor is set to emcee the Democrats latest pre-election season scrimmage (I refuse to call it a debate with the election over a year away). Had things gone differently, Keith would have a much bigger stage than MSNBC. It seems before CBS unleashed the Katie Couric experiment on an unsuspecting public, Olbermann interviewed for the CBS Evening News gig:http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/tv/la-et-ontv7aug07,0,7373684.story?coll=la-home-entertainment

One thing Keith oughta ask these numbskull candidates from the opposition party is why, despite a public outcry against the war and against this sitting president, they continue to lack a spine:http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/07/opinion/07tue1.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Remember the 2004 election when the evangelicals went after gay marriage? I was just wondering why none of the candidates is going after fat people. After all, obesity is a public health problem and gluttony is a sin. Plus, the whole gay marriage thing is a tired act and the bible thumpers have to play some kinda card in the next election. Do they fear the power of the Dairy Queen lobby? As a former fat guy I stand beside my chunky brothers and sisters and wait for the day when the Christian Soldiers wage a holy war against us.

The Decider says we're gonna win the Afghan War....huh? Didn't he lead the American public into thinking we'd already won that war before the invasion of Iraq?:http://www.nydailynews.com/news/wn_report/2007/08/07/2007-08-07_im_no_loser_sez_w_-2.html

My 10th grade year we were given an essay assignment with the topic "If You Could Be Anyone in the World, Who Would It Be?" Being a 15 year old kid, I chose David Lee Roth. Hey dont laugh! Van Halen was huge at that time and DLR with his lifestyle of bimbos and parties appealed to me. Of course at that time I was too young to notice Roth's fading hairline and the possibility he might suffer from a case of latent homosexuality. Despite that, DLR was one of rocks all time great frontmen. He is the only lead singer of Van Halen that ever mattered. And if Billboard is to be believed, DLR and the Van Halen brothers (and Eddies kid) will announce their tour soon:http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003622049

Hell's Kitchen has been the highlight of the summer TV season but hey Fox Network...can I get an hour of my life back? Last nights show was a waste of time:http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20040769_20040772_20050290,00.html

Denis Leary - A**hole

Considering my mood, considering how hot it is, and just considering the world in general, this is the perfect video clip for today. Stand proud, play it loud and tell your friends, family and loved ones with a clear voice...."I'm an a**hole!"

Moody Monday

Still in a cranky mood....its gotta be the heat...that or I'm in dire need of Prozac. Watched Zodiac over the weekend. A pretty good flick tho it takes some liberties with the actual case. I like David Fincher but I had low expectations for the flick just based on reviews I'd read. I had higher expectations for Christopher Guest's latest flick For Your Consideration. I had a couple of laughs thanks to Harry Shearer but overall I found it be the weakest of Guest's flicks tho Harry Shearrer does have some nice moments. Fred Willard is a riot as the host of an Entertainment Tonight style show.

Speaking of movies, thousands of Siskel and Eberts reviews can now be found online:
http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/ebertandroeper/
I miss watching those guys. Siskel died a few years back and Ebert has been battling cancer. Ebert has gone back to work at the newspaper but is off of tv while he tries to regain the ability to speak.

How did I miss Sara Gilbert being a lover of women?:http://www.queerty.com/news/sara-gilberts-home-growing-20070806/

Don Imus to be replaced by Boomer Esiason?:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,292169,00.html
Who will sit in while Boomer is on vacation? Turk Schonert? David Klingler? Jeff Blake?

A new survey says Nancy Drew and Dr. Seuss got more kids hooked on reading than any other book. I thought for sure Jackie Collins would top that list:http://www2.firstbook.org/whatbook/

Note to the guy wandering around the mall on his Bluetooth the other day....Unless your name is Uhura and you're in charge of communications for the Starship Enterprise, you look like an idiot or at least an insane person roaming around a mall talking to yourself about shoe sizes. You're not that important and you're bloody rude so next time leave it in the car. Thanks.

I wasted another hour of my life watching Bret Michaels Rock of Love. Last night the weathered old Rodeo rode off into the sunset. Rodeo was joined in her exit by outted aspiring adult film performer Brittani C. The show is a train wreck maybe thats why I continue to watch.

Here's a shock...more people watch cable channels than the big networks during the summer:http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-channel6aug06,0,3703659.story?coll=la-home-entertainment

Fake Steve the blogger has been revealed:http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/06/technology/06steve.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Big weekend of sports milestones....Barry Bonds tied Hank Aaron with his 755th homer (and no one outside of San Francsico cares), ARod hit his 500th, best bet to beat Bonds record if he stays healthy and Tom Glavine picked up his 300th win:http://www.nypost.com/seven/08062007/sports/mets/glav_grabs_milestone_mets__mark_hale.htm

CHEAP TRICK - She's Tight

Cheap Trick...still one of America's greatest rock bands. These guys deserve far more respect and money than they have received. Bow to them...GO ON BOW!

Friday on My Mind

The long, hot week is nearly at an end. I think the heat is making me extra crabby. The coverage of the bridge disaster has set me off. I've seen the New York media print headlines proclaiming a "bridge of death" and stories that say Minnesota sadly has its own Ground Zero. One of the New York papers today argues that the Brooklyn Bridge is in even worse shape than the bridge that collapsed...Excuse me? That bridge is no more...how can the still standing Brooklyn Bridge be in worse shape? Plus if I have to watch one more local news report with Andrea Cambern rattling off the safety score card of Ohio's bridges I'm liable to go Elvis on my TV. I'm sorry but I'm guessing Andrea's background on bridges is limited to reading The Bridges of Madison County. I get it already, bridges are unsafe. I'll drive around the water from now on. Why I bother to watch tv news I do not know.

An LA reporter has been suspended for making the sexytime with the Mayor of LA:http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-salinas3aug03,0,1619997.story?coll=la-home-center

Maybe the heat has also had an effect on George Steinbrenner. A new report today portrays a King George who may have lost his marbles:http://www.nypost.com/seven/08032007/news/regionalnews/tragic_madness_of_king_george_regionalnews_dan_mangan.htm

Here's a sign of Fall....Believe it or not, the NFL kicks off its preseason on Sunday night with the annual Hall of Fame game. The induction ceremony is Saturday. Browns lineman Gene Hickerson finally gets to enter the hall but sadly, he won't get to enjoy it: http://www.cleveland.com/browns/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/1186131550237460.xml&coll=2
